I make french toast fairly often for weekend breakfasts. I use any bread products I have in need of using up -- today I even used a couple of shop-bought hot cross buns. I usually make a sweet version, serving it with syrup and/or fruit, but I've also done savory versions too.
1. Bread, preferably stale.
2. An egg
3. Milk
4. Mixed spice, if having sweet toppings.
5. Oil and Butter
6. Toppings: syrup, honey, fresh berries, bacon, or anything really
1. Mix together the egg, milk, and spices in a sallow wide dish. The spices wont want to mix but just keep whisking.
2. Soak bread in mixture on all sides until its absorbed all it can.
3. Heat pan, adding a little oil
4. Fry on one side, flipping once it releases.
5. Fry on the other side too. Try to brown thin sides and then give up when they just repeatedly fall over.
6. Once surface starts to brown, reduce temperature and add butter.
7. Once cooked through, serve with toppings
