              ORDER ADOPTING REVISED RULES
                OF THE SUPREME COURT OF
                   THE UNITED STATES
                  Monday, January 11, 1999

  IT IS ORDERED that the revised Rules of this Court,
today approved by the Court and lodged with the Clerk,
shall be effective May 3, 1999, and be printed as an appendix
to the United States Reports.
  IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Rules promulgated
January 16, 1997, see 519 U. S. 1161, shall be rescinded as
of May 2, 1999, and that the revised Rules shall govern all
proceedings in cases commenced after that date and, to the
extent feasible and just, cases then pending.
