But that doesn't mean that the OEM has to ship 3.0. He can ship any combination of 3.0 or earlier stuff he wants to put together. I hope to God W.E. gets on the stick and opens up educational 3.0 licenses ASAP, so Berkeley can merge what they like from it into the VAX distribution, and make a new standard. I shudder to think of the massive duplication of effort and multiplicity of versions that is about to happen when everybody starts to integrate 3.0 with whatever they are running. Let's all lean hard on W.E. to extend the educational license to UNIX III. If they won't do it, and Berkeley refuses to put any of it into the VAX distribution, then let's get together some sort of cooperative effort on the integration. Remember: close to 100% of all VAXes outside of the Labs run 4.1bsd. I bet it will stay that way in the face of 3.0. --dave ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
