Awivax.1018 net.ski utzoo!decvax!wivax!evans Wed Nov 18 20:00:34 1981 New Equipment Anyone thinking of buying new ski equipment should do it NOW. Many sales are ending, but some are still going on. Best deals can be found on last years overstock (tremendous savings), so look around. If you're not sure as to what's good for you, pick up some of the early-season issues of various ski magazines. They usually have articles such as "We Test x-number of New Ski's", or whatever, and will give you an idea of just what's the out there. The same holds true for boots and bindings. Also, the salesperson at the shops should (i say, should) have a good idea of what's better for different types of people. Don't be persuaded by anyone into buying 'short' skis. Skis should be several inches taller than you're height, and more depending on how advanced you are. Longer skis have more control and better turning quality than short skis. If you're going from short to longer skis, give them a chance, you'll find you'll do much better once you've skied on them a few times. As for boots, get boots that are comfortable and 'snug'. Loose boots won't let you 'feel' your skis or the snow, whereas cramped boots will probably cause alot of pain and a not-so-fun a time. Bindings should be suited for your ability and you should have a qualified person mount and adjust them. Improperly mounted or adjusted bindings will not release properly. Try to haggle with the prices. Many shops, in fact most shops, will give you a discount if they think they can get you to do more business with them. Good luck and happy spending! Also, a note of clarification of previous net.ski message: Ski America magazine has a bunch of coupons for Bromley/Stratton (Vt) packages including lift tickets, lessons, and equipment. The magazine also has a list of about 40 ski areas which you can obtain lift ticket discounts from several dollars to 50%. The tickets are purchased through the magazine and are valid for the 1981-82 ski season. They also say the quantity of tickets is limited.
