I have tried 1. single pass Diablo, which gives (in BTL's quaint phrase) an ASCII approximation; 2. Double pass on a Diablo, which is very awkward and not suitable for routine use by secretaries; 3. Versatec output, which okay but again awkward for secretari is okay but again . only an ASCII approximation; It seems to me that a high resolution dot matrix printer would be better than any of the above. (My aim is respectable but not necessarily camera-ready output; in the long run I expect to send tapes directly to journals and only need the printed output for proofing and preprints.) Does anyone have experience with using a dot matrix printer? Any advice would be appreciated. One more note. A double-headed QUME certainly would work, but its very expensive (for me!) and seems fairly complicated mechanically. I would worry about whether it will be down a fair fraction of the time. Thanks for any help.
