Asri-unix.530 net.lan utcsrgv!utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!hpvax!sri-unix!knutsen Fri Jan 15 16:50:53 1982 SRInet We have a local ethernet here at SRI which we are just bringing into production mode. One of the design ideas was to use as much existing software as possible, so we built SRI-IMPs (shrimps) which attach the the ethernet and optionally an ARPAnet IMP (interface message processor), and pretend to be an IMP. This lets us use ARPAnet software. Hosts connect to the SRIIMPs via the ARPAnet standard 1822 connection, or to the ethernet directly in some cases. So far we have connected UNIX and TOPS-20 hosts to the net. Our Burroughs accounting facility connection is now in debug mode. We have plans to add TCP/IP (US DoD protocols) to the SRIIMPs, to provide direct access to other ARPAnet (and internet) sites from hosts without a dedicated ARPAnet IMP.
