There are two fundamental problems with the idea of lobbying the
Washington people.  First off, electronic mail/news only works
if the recipient (or their flunkie) spends a lot of time logged in
to some computer on some network.  I imagine most senators are of
the "if I touch that funny TV set it might bite my hand" mentality.
(How many layers up the supervisory chain from you and your boss do
you have to go to find someone who never uses a computer?  Chances
are that if your boss does you're a lucky person.)  The other problem
is that only people who use computers a lot would be able to SEND such
information, thus giving a certain select group (computer scientists)
an "unfair" advantage.  (Not that lobbyists are all that fair.)

If we're going to continue this discussion a new newsgroup should be
created, perhaps net.washington?  But I suspect there is no reason
to continue.
