Achico.147 NET.general utzoo!duke!chico!trb Tue Jun 30 17:09:06 1981 Yet Another UNIX Users Group Yet another UNIX Users Group has been formed. It's called Uni-ops. They're interested in UNIX, as well as C and software tools. I asked Walter Zintz, who picked up their phone, why he felt there was need for yet another UNIX group and he said that he felt that USENIX was primarily university oriented and strongly oriented toward folks with source licenses, and that /usr/group was a vendor group. He feels the need for a group to service the binary license holder, the personal computer user, and the person who is interested in UNIX but doesn't yet have a UNIX system or license. (Of course, random hackers are graciously accepted too.) The group was announced in BYTE July '81, p. 306. Dues are $24/year. Mastercard and Visa accepted. Their convention which was announced for third week in October has been postponed due to holiday conflicts until 11-15 January 1982. For more details write: Uni-ops, POB 5182, Walnut Creek CA 94596, or call (415) 933-8564. I have nothing to do with them, so don't mail to me for more info. I am not really sure that a need exists for their organization, but they should at least get some press.
