Apparently very few people have had experience with these terminals, but we ordered on anyway. Due to the uncertain nature of the group 'fa.info-terms', I decided to submit my impressions of the terminal in this group. We received one of these terminals last week and are very pleased with it so far. I have used the Lear-Seiglar ADM-3A, and the Viewpoint is much better in many respects. In fact, I prefer it over the Televideo 920 except for the block mode and more 'function keys.' (Televideo has 12 vs. 3 on viewpoint. Neither has definable function keys.) Other features: > Detachable keyboard. > Numeric keypad. > To transmit 'break', the control key must be depressed with 'break.' (not a bad feature considering placement of break key - tends to make break intentional.) > Has a 'backspace' key (unlike the ADM-3A), but no 'line feed.' (For line feed a cntl-j must be entered.) > Transparent mode to show control characters. > Reverse video, half intensity, and blink video attributes. However, two escape sequences are required to turn on and off, and only one of the enhanced video attributes may be displayed on the screen at a given time, and all 'tagged' data will be displayed with those attributes. (That is, half intensity blink is possible, or any combination, but not on the same screen with half intensity reverse.) > Somewhat attractive. Though the terminal is somewhat light-weight, the look is not extremely 'cheap.' > There is a high-pitched oscillator sound from the CRT which may be annoying to some in a low-noise environment. However, I soon became accustomed to it. I will be happy to further discuss this with anyone who has further questions. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
