Yesterday, I came home from ballet class (hey, what is WRONG with this guy?) and by gully, I was beat and hungry. Did I reach for the amphetamines? No! The beer? No! I went to the fridge and whipped out a cantaloupe and an avocado and I PIGGED OUT! Wicked pissah, man. Preparation is really easy. You just hack the things in quarters with a big sharp knife and scoop away with a spoon. You can grace either of these suckers with lemon juice. Not from the bottle, from the lemon. You prepare the lemon by cutting in quarters as above, and squeezing the juice on your primary delight. Remove the pits/seeds from fruits in all cases. Speaking of lemon juice, it's good on steaks and salads and stuff too. California has an avocado glut; the specimens in NJ are wonderful, they must be downright supernal in California. Make sure you wait until they are ripe (soft) before you eat them, usually a couple of days to a week after you buy them in the store. They will then be good eating for about a week. Sometimes they have "ripe" stickers on them at the store, then you can just go ahead and buy 'em and eat 'em. You don't have to be a cook to enjoy these delights, you only have to be able to safely handle a knife and spoon. The bold can substitute honeydew for cantaloupe in the above recipe. Actually, I do have a vice. My-T-Fine chocolate pudding and HEAVY CREAM. I'm not talking half and half, I'm talking HEAVY. This takes a little more skill than the fruit recipes above, and yes, it probably offends those of you out there who are into coffee enemas, but I am not health conscious enough to laugh chocolate pudding and heavy cream in the face, so here. You follow the directions on the carton of chocolate pudding, one cup of whole milk per two servings, and stir CONSTANTLY until it starts to boil. You then pour it into fewer serving bowls than are suggested, and you have the choice of waiting until it cools or not. Both methods have their grace. Either way, you pour a layer of heavy cream over the top and ahhh. Heaven.
