Aucbvax.4099 net.columbia utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!space-enthusiasts Tue Sep 29 10:35:05 1981 >From OTA@SU-AI Tue Sep 29 10:31:34 1981 This note is being sent to all new people on the SPACE mailing list. It is being distributed through SAIL once a day in digest format. Mail to SPACE@MIT-MC will collect in a file at SAIL and be sent out at about 4:00 AM PST. There is also an immediate distribution sublist. This list gets submissions to the daily digest sent out as they are recieved at SAIL. This list provides more interaction but at the cost of more junk mail which I can usually filter out of the digest. Let me know if you want to be on this sublist instead of the daily digest list. The topics covered by this digest include almost anything related to space: its exploration, development and uses. The list seems to have developed more into an information forum than into the discussion type of list like Human-Nets is. This is not enforced by any means, however, so feel free to bring up topics for discussion. One of the most common submissions to this list are news stories picked up from the AP and NYT news wires that relate to space activities. In the past, these have included stories about the Space Shuttle, Voyager, Soviet Space activities, and the like. Since this list uses the facilities of the ARPANET the usual rules about Network and Large-List usage apply. If you have any questions about correct usage and/or etiquette let me know. If you have a submission which is questionable send it to SPACE-REQUEST@MC (see below) instead of SPACE@MC and I will check it before forwarding it to the full distribution. A log of mail sent to this list is being kept in the file SPACE.LOG[SPA,OTA] at SAIL. You can type or FTP this file with out an account. Any comments, complains, or requests pertaining to this list should be directed to me (OTA@SAIL) or to SPACE-REQUEST@MC, not to the main distribution address. On the average the volume of mail to this list is not high. Many days there are no submissions at all. Normally this mailing list is fully automatic, this has a variety of implications but mainly it implies two things: use SPACE-REQUEST@MC when appropriate and be sure to include a subject field on submissions so that the digest summary will be correct.
