But officials hope that some time will be made up before the third flight, scheduled (before the accident) for January, 1981. At present count, 388 tiles have been removed. They will be washed, baked, water-proofed, and then reapplied to the ship. Regluing is expected to start next week. There was no estimate of how long it would take. Meanwhile, engineers are trying to determine whether or not some of the small thrusters in the steering mechanism have to be replaced. Engineers found iron nitrate buildups around the metal head of section of the valve connecting to the servicing panel of the shuttle. They think it formed after the fuel had left its storage tank but weren't sure why.
