Olson Subject: Mind Link To: Kosower at PARC-MAXC Message-ID: You may have been joking, but this is a project that (seriously) interests me. I have always felt that it would be fairly simple (facile compared to speech or picture recognition) to connect a few electrodes to different tiny muscles (jaw, eye, face, finger, toe) and use the relatively large spikes from moving these muscles to control a cursor, or even do complete typing. I have great faith in the human animal being able to learn how to control something very complicated via difficult motions (for instance, positioning his fingers over a pre-defined spot on a board with cells labeled QWERTYUIOP... and pressing down, without looking). If there are any Bio-electronics people out there, I'd love to actually do the project. I KNOW it can be done, but I have not the knowledge to grab the signals off the body (the rest is easy). ------------------------------ Date: 24 Jul 1981 1435-EDT From: Eric K. Olson Subject: A simple question Message-ID: This may seem like a trivial question, but remember back to when you didn't know the answer, and then tell me: What's inside a mouse or trackball? How is the relative motion data gathered? Please send responses to me; I will send back to the mailing list the clearest. ------------------------------ End of collected responses on terminal input devices **************************************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
