In particular, vi will work as a screen editor w/o scrolling, writing to the graphics text area. My termcap is: XX|4112|tek4112|tektronix 4112:\ :am:bs:da:db:pt:li#34:co#80:cl=\E^L:\ :up=^K:\ :cm=%*23 %*12: Most of vi works, except for ctrl-d (down) (although forward works), and instead of scrolling when you reach end of page, it starts overwriting the top of the page. However, the ability to modify lines while seeing the surrounding code is much nicer than glass tty mode. Insert mode overwrites existing text, which is then redrawn when you finish your insert. There may be other glitches I haven't encountered, probably related to my cm entry. Be sure that you write to graphics area when you run the editor if you use the dialog area for most of your work. This is easily done with a shell script which sends the dialog area disable, calls vi, then enables the dialog area again after vi is done. I would also like to point out that the terminal can store off-screen dialog info in a buffer which you can later roll through with your thumbwheels. Besides scanning smoothly though your buffer, one can get to the top or bottom of your buffer by giving the wheel a very quick spin. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
