Ask your local ROTC types or any other good friend with a security clearance to find out what the evidence is for Russian treaty violations, particularly with respect to Arms Control, but you may find their record elsewhere quite instructive. Ask someone who lives in another, more or less friendly country (say, England, France or Germany) what OUR record is like. Read a foreign newspaper. DON'T look in American History books. The Revisionists and Apologists have done things to History as it is taught in our high schools that would make the Creationists proud. College history courses MAY be better, but caveat auditor (sic). In case you hadn't figured this out, I disagree. There are two ways of looking at arms control: make the world safer, or conquer the world cheaper. If you can get the enemy to cut his own throat, for a very modest expenditure in diplomatic expenses and press releases, it beats building bombs, which is very expensive. People whose opinion I trust tell me that that is a fair description of SALT II. As such, I can see why they wouldn't want the U.S. to ratify it. However, I don't know that firsthand. What I do know is that the Law of the Sea and the (popularly called) "Moon Treaty" were EXACTLY like that, and I am DELIGHTED that these treaties are not likely to be ratified. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
