De Leon is now available at two sites. Which site you use depends on which library structure you prefer. ___________________________________________________________________ what's at csf.colorado.edu __________________________ There is now a very large collection of Marx and Engels books and speeches in electronic form, at csf.colorado.edu . It is in the subdirectory /psn/Marx , under the auspices of the Progressive Sociologists Network. The people there were kind enough to include a directory called /psn/Marx/OTHERS , into which they copied De Leon, Lenin and Trotsky. De Leon resides in psn/Marx/OTHERS/DeLeon . Because the directory paths are nested so deeply, with book chapters and subchapters stored in separate files, this site is easiest to use with the menu-driven Gopher protocol. Or perhaps you'll want to use the FTP command "mget" to retrieve an entire subdirectory. If you use this site with FTPmail, you'll drive yourself crazy. When an e-mail server is added to this site in the future, this procedure will be simplified. ___________________________________________________________________ what's at etext.archive.umich.edu _________________________________ De Leon can also be found at etext.archive.umich.edu , in the directory /pub/Politics/Essays/DeLeon . This structure is more "flat" than the colorado site, i.e., one file contains one text. Definitely use this site if you have to use FTPmail (which doesn't support the "mget" command). The files in this location are: NAME OF TEXT YEAR BYTES FILE NAME ------------ ---- ----- --------- Reform or Revolution? 1896 26K reform.or.revolution.gz What Means This Strike? 1898 23K what.means.this.strike.gz The Burning Question of 1904 21K trade.unionism.gz Trades Unionism Socialist Reconstruction 1905 37K socialist.reconstruction.gz of Society As To Politics 1907 70K as.to.politics.gz The compression scheme being used here is described as follows: > Files ending in .z or .gz are compressed with GNU Zip. > If you need GNU Zip, look in the directory "/gzip". But I think there's some kind of trick where you can leave the .gz off a file name when you "get" it, and then the server will automatically unzip the file before giving it to you. ___________________________________________________________________ If anyone has any questions, comments, suggestions, or insults, the best place to write to me is mlepore@mcimail.com .
