The National Archives is working with GPO on a plan to provide electronic access to the Federal Register. What follows is the statement prepared by my colleague, Bob Jordan, at the Federal Register about the status of their plans. Avra Michelson National Archives and Records Administration Technology Research Staff 202-501-5544 The GPO Electronic Access Act of 1993 (PubL. 103-40) requires GPO to provide a system of electronic access to the _Congressional Record_, the _Federal Register_, and other publications. By law, the system of access is to be operational by June, 1994. NARA's Office of Federal Register and the GPO have been working together to develop an implementation plan to identify the critical tasks and attributes of the electronic access system. In general, the system should be well-designed, easy to use, and low in price. Potential electronic delivery media under consideration by GPO include online interactive, CD-ROM, tape, disk, satellite broadcast, fax, bulletin board, and network access. It is anticipated that the final implementation plan for electronic access to the _Federal Register_ and _Congressional Record_ will be released in the fall of 1993.
