I spent a day trying to understand and work with Emacs --just because I was a little Emacs-curious. I cannot believe the ginormous learning curve associated with it, and when I got a hint of what it could do, I had to ask myself, "Do I really need all this, now?" --especially, when what I want to do is learn more about the command line tools on Linux...and there's always Vim. So I scrapped that endeavor for the distant future and focused my attention on working with Vim. Sure as hell, the amount of configuration, to do this thing or that, is starting to resemble Emacs from where I'm standing. Can I say bloody-hell? Maybe VScode is something to look at. Seriously, though, I am enjoying working with Vim a lot more than when I first started --I'm one of those people who had to close out the terminal to exit Vim.
I'm making small configurations as I go, depending on what I need at the time. I'm also commenting on the .vimrc file to make sure I know what each line does. Plugins will be next week's project, maybe. I'm using the vimtutorial, YouTube videos, the sinister chatgpt, and experimental play to help me get a handle on this editor. It's growing on me, but at some point I need to focus my attention on other things --like everything else from web development to Linux cli's.
That's all for now.
