I've always heard about letters of introduction as a thing required to apply to some jobs but I always thought that by some miracle I would be able to avoid them forever!
Of course I am god's little jester and he's quite bored.
Everything started when I got sent a mail informing me of a course about to take place. To apply I had to send my cv and a letter of introduction, they would then see if I was a good fit for the course.
Making the cv was somewhat easy, the last time I had to send one I really went all out constantly consulting with a friend who studies graphic design... In one of the interviews I saw how one of the inkjet printers had botched the entire thing and vowed not to repeat the same mistake so I just used a latex template, dry, ugly and functional.
The letter of introduction was not that easy... I've always struggled with "profesional speech" mostly because it tends to sound like a pair of sociopath talking to each other.
Seriously who writes "Good evening I have sent you my cv because I believe I am a good fit to..."? If you didn't think you were a good fit you wouldn't send it and even if you didn't believe no one would say "Hey I am the worst decision you can take so... please hire me?".
It's a lot of nice-ness, meaningless pandering and elegant sounding nothings.
So my letter of introduction reads something like:
Hi! I'm Fran, I worked at x, I did y, I like z. Please pick me :)
