In August of 2008 on a rainy day in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, I began filming the 21st season of MTV's The Real World [1]. At 24 years old, I was the first openly transgender person in the show's then-16- year history. Only five weeks earlier, I had undergone sexual reassignment surgery.

So, while watching the first episode of Caitlyn Jenner's E! docuseries I Am Cait [2], I found myself in a unique position to understand and empathize with Ms. Jenner. I also noticed some things that were quite familiar.

Katelynn is probably the only person who's opinion on Caitlyn (and her show) you should take (you know … because they have the same first name). Also, I might be a bit biased, having met Katelynn several years before she became a reality television star [5].
I also wonder just how scripted Caitlyn's show will become [6] (link via Instapundit [7]).
