The Year is dead! Long live the Year!

Given that it sounds like a war zone outside, and it's not the Fourth of July [1], there are only two reasons I can see for this:

Frankly, given recent events, it very well could be the start of a revolution (which won't be televised [3]; it will be Tweeted [4]) but seeing how the calendar just flipped over, I do believe it's just the celebration of the New Year.
