This pineapple cider is actually pineapple passion fruit, but you don't know that until you open the box.

Eh, Frakes has been working regularly as a director ever since his run on TNG came to an end. That doesn't happen unless you're competent and easy to work with, so reducing him to a point and click director seems a little unnecessary. But you're right, he's probably not the right person to run the franchise. Now, if they wanted to throw Mike McMahan into the hot seat, I'd be interested in seeing how that turned out. Lower Decks might not be everyone's cup of tea, but he clearly is deeply passionate and knowledgeable about Star Trek.

I actually had a chance to go while it was still in operation. I would say the biggest issues (small number of rooms, location) have already been touched on, but another big one was that, while the ship itself was fairly cool, it felt more generic sci-fi themed rather than specifically Star Wars themed, so it would probably be tricky to get people to get excited about staying in an expensive location, with limited amenities, inconvenient access to the park and a generic theme.

No, it just means that they are at worst messaging at the minimum possible threshold for comprehensible communication.

Just because theoretically someone can get me to where I need to go in a car while drunk off their ass doesn't mean they are driving correctly, it just means they're hitting the minimum possible threshold for traversal.

I started Algebra in elementary school, I had finished calculus by freshman year of highschool. I was good at math, I just didn't like it. Sorry, but calc 2, 3, and linear algebra weren't my bag. I finished required math courses as quickly as possible so I wouldn't have to do them anymore.

That's because recruiters don't even know how to become recruiters, let alone other things, they just get recruited by other recruiters (source: am recruiter).

Hey now, I'm also a recruiter. Sometimes it's because we are only capable of putting on a Type A personality for short bursts over the phone, and too lazy to get a CS degree because math is boring.

I once ordered some specialty light bulbs off amazon (I forget exactly what for, but they were some weird thread size/bulb size that I couldn't find at the local hardware store). They were basically shipped loose in a thin padded envelope. I received a bag of broken glass, and amazon wanted me to return them to get a refund. I refused since I wasn't going to ruin some poor customer returns persons day.

Zillow actually lost a ton of money trying to do exactly that back in 2019/2020, and dropped their Instant Offers product like a hot potato, I'm guessing Redfin did as well since it looks like they shut down their home buying program Redfin Now in 2022.

This is one of my biggest social skill holes. I will not remember your name the first few times I hear it, and if after that I don't interact with you on a regular basis, I will forget it again. For me it's not even a question of not caring, I'm actively embarrassed by this, but people's names just don't stick in my head.

You have to remember that some of us are old. Teaching typing on a computer was novel in the 80s. The fact that I owned a Palm Pilot 3 in highschool in the 90s made me a god damn wizard.

We were lucky we were taught how basic series and parallel electrical circuits worked, fuck me if we were learning logic gates.

It's not just that the market is saturated, companies just aren't hiring. Check any FAANG company's careers page. They may have hundreds or even thousands of jobs listed. Then search for recruiting roles at that company. Basically nothing. Not even enough open roles to account for attrition.

Tech companies by and large aren't hiring net new, they aren't backfilling. They are laying off and pushing people out via RTO mandates. I've been through more layoffs in the last couple of years than I had in the 15+ years prior that I've been working for tech companies.

I've been waiting almost 2.5 years for this to blow over, but now I'm starting to think it's the new normal.
