The mods of /r/xkcd are gone, once and for all. In light of that, in the next few days, /r/xkcdcomic will start redirecting to /r/xkcd.
It's been a pleasure to moderate this community!

This subreddit has been a textbook example of how to reclaim a community from a rogue moderator on reddit. It almost seems anticlimactic to just pack up and go home, but hey, a win is a win. Well done, chaps.

Rejoice! But is no one else curious about *how* this happened?

Thanks for keeping a place for the comic relatively drama-free and racist-free.

The mods of /r/xkcd[1] are gone
Perhaps rephrase that to “The *bad* mods” or “The *old* mods” or something like that? You’re “still” there ;)

This will go down as an incredibly important day in reddit history. No precedent was set by the admins. Despite many wanting them to step in and cite eminent domain or something, in the end the evil was purged through only the application of existing guidelines.
It basically affirms the admins' hands-off approach, and it's what makes this site great. But most important of all, decency triumphed over bigotry and ignorance.

Is the subreddit style going to come with us? I like the style an awful lot, whoever did it did a great job :3

Wow, it's been cool moving from /r/xkcd to /r/xkcdcomic and now back to /r/xkcd. It's so nice when things work in a well mannered way for the best. We're going home!

I really don't want this one to go. Sure, /r/xkcd is back in good hands and I'm sure the people there right now are really nice, but something might happen to get it back in the hands of another moderator who wants the sub for its reach, rather than its community.
Mainly, I'm just worried someone's account could get compromised or something and that would cause /r/xkcd to go back to how it was, and I want to keep this one as a fallback sub in case something does go bad.

This subreddit did a great job while it was needed... But alas, it is no longer needed...
And I hope it will never be needed again.

I think that instead of just turning this subreddit into a redirect, keep it for specifically discussing the comic while /r/xkcd can be more "general"
