___Jurassic Park___ is a science fiction[2] novel written by Michael Crichton[3]. Often considered a cautionary tale[4] on unconsidered biological tinkering in the same spirit as Mary Shelley[5]'s *Frankenstein[6]*, it uses the metaphor of the collapse of an amusement park[7] showcasing genetically recreated[8] dinosaurs[9] to illustrate the mathematical concept of chaos theory[10] and its philosophical implications. In 1993, Steven Spielberg[11] adapted the book into the blockbuster film *[Jurassic Park](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Park_(film%5C[12])).* The book's sequel, *[The Lost World](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_World_(Crichton_novel%5C[13]))* (1995) was also adapted by Spielberg into a film[14] in 1997. A third film[15], directed by Joe Johnston[16] and released in 2001, drew several elements, themes, and scenes from both books that were ultimately not utilized in either of the previous films, such as the aviary and boat scenes. A fourth entry[17], directed by Colin Trevorrow[18], is set for theatrical release on June 12, 2015.
