Day 13 of my updates from Kharkiv, my previous post can be found at the link above.
Today that same sound from yesterday of a nearby tank or artillery shooting at something continued, we can hear the sound of the shot itself but not of the impact/explosion, and distant sound of explosions also continues even now as I’m writing this.
After talking with our relatives from Russia again today it looks like our words might finally start to get through to them now, but that’s because their acquaintance’s husband who was conscripted into Russian army to invade Ukraine actually returned and told them what happened firsthand.
I don’t think they are conscripting quite everyone just yet as apparently he previously fought in Syria, so he was already experienced. Well, first thing is that when he was being conscripted they told him that he was going to take part in training exercises but instead he was sent to war.
He told them that he was part of a fuel convoy which started with 30 fuel trucks, but only 6 of them actually returned back, the scale of destruction is just insane, so much senseless death. Apparently he also told them that he won’t be returning to war after this, which is great.
Hopefully with more people returning back both dead and alive Russians will finally start to see what is really happening in Ukraine because right now from the looks of it most people there either don’t understand what is really happening here, believe the propaganda or even support the so called “special military operation”.

Euromaiden's reporting that the 25th Motor Rifle Brigade has withdrawn. That's only one tank battalion, but it's a *lot* of men. The 25th was expected to be able to engage 2 Estonian Land Forces Brigades (In a war with NATO), which would be 10k-16k soldiers

It's gotta be obvious to anyone, even the high ranking Russian military, that Putin cannot achieve any of his original objectives in Ukraine. Even if he gets Zelensky, Putin won't be able to hold Ukraine, or install a sustainable pro-Putin, anti-West puppet regime. Especially not while the Russian economy has a depression back home.
The only reason he's still in Ukraine at this point is to save face. He's going to literally destroy most of it so he can say "I won." It's sick. It's essentially a "King of the Rubble."
There's only a few ways this can end. The Russian military and/or people are going to have to depose Putin (before he drives Russia further into the ground). OR the Russian military units in Ukraine themselves will have to surrender and give up. I don't see a scenario where the international community offering Putin an "off ramp" works. He won't take it. The man is egotistical and has lost his grip with reality now.

Ukrainian firm offers $1 mln per captured or surrendered Russian military plane
LVIV, Ukraine, March 8 (Reuters) - Ukrainian state arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom said on Tuesday it would pay $1 million to anyone who captured a combat-ready Russian military aircraft - an offer it said was open to Russian pilots wanting to switch sides.
The firm will also pay $500,000 for every operational military helicopter seized from Russia, it said in a statement that it asked to be widely shared online.
“To the pilots of the Russian Federation ready to participate in the programme, we guarantee the issuance of citizenship of a free country!,” it said.

Ukrainian Energy Minister said that the employees of the Zaporizhzhya NPP taken hostage are being tortured
In addition, Russian propaganda **plans to use the personnel of the nuclear power plant for its own purposes.**
Seems like Russia is planning to force the NPP staff to record a fake video to spread more propaganda.

Venezuela Releases Imprisoned Americans After Talks With U.S.
The talks with Venezuela, which has enormous proven oil reserves, assumed new urgency after President Biden announced Tuesday that the United States would ban Russian oil and gas imports because of the invasion. That move is expected to further tighten the availability of crude oil on the global market, and could raise gas prices at a moment when inflation has climbed at its fastest pace in 40 years.

I hope the Russian debacle will forever shatter the illusion of Putin as some master tactician, and Russia as anything other than a regional power, soon to be a Chinese vassal state.

Responding to the (edit: potential) news that 500 ex Canadian military people have their own unit in the international legion, I'm not surprised but very proud of my fellow Canadians. Ukrainian culture is so much a part of Canadian culture that I am outraged if I go to a grocery store and can't find perogies. May they be safe, kick ass, and come home soon.

Interesting article I came across:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ukraine-cold-snap-set-to-freeze-russian-convoy-could-see-soldiers-quit/ar-AAUMc6Y?ocid=msedgntp[1][2]
A severe cold snap could push Russian troops to desert a convoy that has been stalled outside of Kyiv for the last few days, a military advisor to Ukraine's armed forces has said.
Arctic air moving through Russia and Ukraine will combine with an easterly wind to make the temperature feel as cold as minus 20 by Wednesday, according to forecasts.
"A metal tank is just a fridge at night if you are not running the engine," said Glen Grant, a senior defense expert at the Baltic Security Foundation who advised Ukraine on its military reform."
"The boys won't wait. They will get out, start walking to the forest, and give themselves up," he said.
"You just can't sit around and wait because if you are in the vehicle you are waiting to be killed. They are not stupid."

It's wild how much of a grip Putin really had/has on Russia.
Nothing seems to be able to force him out of power. And now he is further isolating Russia from the world (probably trying to call the West's bluff on sanctions), and doubling down on everything.
He's going to end up with China essentially owning Russia, which can't be what he wants.

Russian forces continued concentrating in the eastern, northwestern, and western outskirts of Kyiv for an assault on the capital in the coming 24-96 hours. The reported **appearance of forces belonging to Chechen leader Ramazan Kadyrov, Russia’s Rosgvardia internal security formations, and the Liga (former Wagner) Private Military Company** in the western outskirts of Kyiv may indicate that the Russian military is struggling to assemble sufficient conventional combat power to launch its assault on the capital. Russian forces near Kyiv made limited gains and prepared for limited drives to continue their attempted encirclement to the west.
