From DW Live-feed, Ukrainian Minister Kira Rudyk asked by reporter, "Almost ridiculous to ask, but being International Women's Day, what does it mean to be woman in Ukraine, today?" She answers:

Instead of flowers, you are carrying guns.
But I'm privileged to be carrying guns today, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the men of Ukraine.
You know when Putin was attempting to conquer us, he only calculated men in his math. He didn't calculate that Ukrainian women—and the whole Ukrainian nation—would be standing up to him.

So Putin wants to turn off the gas to EU… isn’t this just sanctioning himself at this point? How stupid can one person be?

⚡️US senators seek to lock down Russia's gold reserves.
A bipartisan group of senators has introduced a bill seeking to apply secondary sanctions to U.S. entities that trade in gold in Russia, the Axios news site reported on March 8.

If this actually happens...what value the ruble does have is linked to Russian gold reserves. With depleted reserves, we may actually see Zimbabwe/Venezeula levels hyperinflation there

Allegedly in some operational areas Russian army is out of any trucks and transports own soldiers as garbage - in dump trucks. A strong feeling of ISIS or Taliban.

I remember seeing the videos of trains hauling all this stuff and thinking that there is no way this is actually for the Russian military. Guess I was wrong.

Through it all, Zelenskiy said, Ukrainian forces were showing unprecedented courage.“The problem is that for one soldier of Ukraine, we have 10 Russian soldiers, and for one Ukrainian tank, we have 50 Russian tanks,” he told ABC News in an interview that aired Monday night.

The mayor of the besieged city of Mariupol, Vadym Boychenko, says the body of a six-year-old girl called Tanya was pulled from the rubble of a destroyed residential building. He says she had died from dehydration.

“Her mother was killed. We don’t know how long the girl was fighting for her life. We can’t imagine how much suffering she had to bear. In the last minutes of her life she was alone, weak, frightened, thirsty.”

The mayor says the story of the girl, also mentioned earlier today by President Volodymyr Zelensky in his address, was “one of many tragic stories of Mariupol, the city surviving in a blockade for the past eight days”.

Boychenko said: “Russian invaders have cynically left the city of half a million without water, light, heat and communications. All routes into the city are blocked. All efforts to deliver food and medicine to the residents of the city were blocked by the Russian army.”

He called on the West to do more to help Ukraine, including introducing a no-fly zone.

Boychenko added: “It will not bring back our Tanya, but will save the lives of thousands of other children in Ukraine.”

Biden is making the call to ban Russian oil imports today. As someone in the US, this is going to make us feel pain at the pump but it’s a price we might have to pay to stop Putin. Most of their economy is oil and gas

Apparently Herbalife is on the list of companies still doing significant business in Russia, according to that Yale article.

We should push them to expand in Russia, as it’ll just tank their economy faster.

Ukrainian army has captured the second Russian tank painted in a parade color scheme. Obviously they were sent to Ukraine in the first days of the invasion to participate in a “Victory parade”. Earlier Ukrainians captured boxes with RU parade uniforms. Reminds me Wehrmacht 1941.

No parades in Kyiv, or Moscow, for a while.

The European Union has outlined plans to eliminate its dependence on Russian energy https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-08-22/index.html

Speaking on Tuesday, it says it will cut Russian gas imports by two-thirds this year, and eliminate its overall need for Russian oil and gas “well before 2030”.
