Assuming this is true...
They are really making the Russians pay every step of the way. Fly or drive stuff to the front lines? It gets attacked on the way. Establish a forward base? That base is vulnerable and your helicopters get destroyed.
Victories like this can have a huge impact on the course of the war. It seems like the amphibious force is currently dead in the water because the Russians were not able to hold Mykolaiv. I guess they do not want to drop another force behind enemy lines and risk them not getting linked up.
Without these helicopters, Mykolaiv could hold, taking the whole amphibious force out of the equation.
