Came here to say the same. I was always told. Never saddle a dead horse. Saddle goes on the live end.

That's a great way to remember it. I never even knew there was a right/wrong way, but I think I've made a cable like this once and it was just for guy wires for a pole holding up outdoor lights.

Is the tension that different with the clamps on the other direction? I haven’t used them, but it looks like they’re squeezed and held either way. Are they doing anything in this orientation?
