Hi!

I've grown up reading, watching experiencing horror. I've always been delighted by it, but one thing that I kinda felt was missing growing up was just.... the "breadth" of ideas that I felt reading some children book or some kids shows. Like,I feel that while any episode of say Courage would - at least in terms of concept - vary wildly from the previous ones, most books that I've read are very similar. They either take the "almost nonfiction approach" - e.g. writing about real events, or the "there's actually no supernatural it's just in the protagonist mind/it's all a metaphor", or try to emulate famous writers (mostly Lovecraft), and in general they don't feel scary. Problem is, I'm an adult now and Courage doesn't feel scary anymore (except the "You're not Perfect" bit, if anyone has anything in that vein hit me up). And even back then, the ideas always felt more like "blurbs", like homages to some other famous book or theme that I was eager to explore once I got old enough of it.. only to find myself stranded and disappointed 'cause there doesn't seem to be any horror beside King (which I'm kind of on the fence about, no judging).

I've found more variety in movies, but still limited compared to what I imagined. It's not just the idea, the executions always seem to throw the scare out of the window just to be more classical, to fit in some tired scheme. I really just want to be scared or even better weirded the fuck out.

Strangely I've found this more in less "literary" stuff like SCPs or creepypastas but still, they're very much underdeveloped concept and not "artsy" enough for my tastes....

So basically, anything you think might have inspired things such as Courage, or Goosebumps, or Dylan Dog for italian readers, or even the Twilight Zone is welcomed.
