January 25th was my first day without drinking...I don't miss it, I sleep better, I have less anxiety...but the pressure from coworkers and some friends sometimes makes me doubt. I hope that with time I will stop being the odd one out but at the same time I like to proclaim my sobriety.

Sometimes when a friend stops drinking, it causes other friends to reevaluate their relationship with alcohol. They may not like what they see in themselves.

When I go to happy hour with my coworkers, I order food to distract from the fact that I’m not drinking and keep my hands busy. No one bothers me about it anymore. Keep it up!!

I think we will become less of the odd ones out: drinking culture seems to slowly becoming less of a norm, at least in the US. Gen Z drinks less than prior generations
It hardly comes up for me, but I’ve been sober for 4 years and have my lifestyle set up to avoid it. “I don’t drink,” is usually all I need to say to shut the idea down. You don’t have to explain why you’re making an objectively healthy life choice.

I have found when I say “I don’t drink” it is seldom met with derision. I had to a long-time but long-distance friend suggest we meet up for a drink when we’d be in the same city. I said “I don’t drink anymore but I’d love to see you. The response I got? “oh - I know just the place; they have awesome coffee and a huge mocktail list!” That’s a good friend; the drinks aren’t the point - the time together is. ❤️

That day will come. I’m so proud of you for owning your sobriety. I was very quiet about mine. I now find the people that used to pressure me now ask if I’m still sober and say how impressed they are that I am. And then order my ginger ale or NA beer.

Keep it up, OP. Only you know what you've been through. You know those crazy gym rats? They don't even touch alcohol and they all have jobs, friends etc. If anything just say you're trying to get in shape.

That day will come! I've found some success with telling friends before hanging out about what day of sobriety I am on and that they are welcome to drink but I won't be. So far in most situations my friends have decided to not drink while we hang out, and I even had one friend thank me for saying something as she often gives in to the pressure to drink when others are drinking but she actually hates drinking. Hopefully those pressures get easier for you!
