I feel like Gen X/Boomers have a much higher ad tolerance than younger people though. Netflix streaming became popular when I was like 12-13, and I've had adblock in my browsers for longer than that, so I fucking hate ads when I see them. Meanwhile, older people I know will gladly subscribe to the ad versions of streaming sites and rawdog the internet even when they know ad blockers exist because they just don't care. They grew up seeing so many ads that it doesn't bother them as much.

I'm Gen X and I despise ads I mute them or leave the room if they're on the TV. If it's on my phone I turn the screen so I can't see the ad playing.

My parents also despise them. During ad breaks my mum would get up and make a cup of coffee or take something into the kitchen. Dad used to just swear at them.

Gen X here. I didn't mind ads when that was your chance to go to the bathroom or get a refill or whatever. Then VCRs came along and you could fast forward and pause, and that was a fine way to deal with ads and breaks.

Then I got used to Netflix and no ads. Watched a showon Prime last night that kept pausing for ads and it kinda made me nuts- I've got the power to stop it, but now I can't speed through the ads.

What REALLY drives me crazy is how I can't get away from ads anymore. I am somewhat conditioned to accept ads while watching a show, even though that is clearly waning. But while I'm pulling gas? No thank you. In the waiting room at the doctor's office? You've got to be kidding me.

My boomer dad will talk your ear off with how much he hates ads.

Maybe you are less tolerant because you haven't been deceived like this before, whereas we all spent the money to avoid ads with cable and then got stuck with ads again. Maybe?

I'm Gen-X. We don't like ads. We may have a higher tolerance for them, but tolerating something and liking something are very different things. We're just better at ignoring them so we don't work as hard to avoid them. Also, some of us are cheap, so if there is a choice between ignoring ads or paying more money not to have ads, we'll ignore them.

You’re right! My boomer uncles and parents don’t seem to mind that much.
