Here, so we don’t have to form opinions and gloat at each other based on a slanted headline (I’m not a Trump supporter but yikes)
In a post on X, she said: "The tariffs are on pause for one month from now." Sheinbaum said her government had agreed to send 10,000 national guard troops to the border to prevent drug trafficking, specifically fentanyl. And the U.S. will work to stop weapons trafficking to Mexico, she added.
Yeah it sounds like Trump got something out of this negotiation. Personally, feels kind of a middling result for how bombastic the threat of 25% tariff on a friendly bordering nation and trade partner is. But we’ll see how it continues to play out.
Edit: For balance, here’s how Trump himself framed it via Twitter. Whether Trump’s own words can be taken at face value is up to your own judgment.
I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country. We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations […]

Mexico has 30 days to find new trade partners and then tariffs begin again.

It’s funny to see how conservatives are only talking about her concession of 10,000 troops, but nothing about what the US agreed to do on their end. Funny in a sad and angering kind of way.

OP purposefully changing and making the headline misleading. Trump derangement syndrome in full effect.

As much as I don't agree with the tarrifs or Trump's immigration policy. I don't think the military at the border is as bad as people say/think it is. Unlike American Leos. The military has actual rules of engagement. Additionally, labelling the cartels terrorist organizations is a great move. It worked for Colombia. In the 90s and early 2000s it was a failed narco state. It's turned around. Thanks to American intelligence which was deployed by labeling these drug groups terrorists. Even 75% of Mexicans living in Mexico want this and want America assistance with the problem. A part of the executive order gives the military 90 days to basically write up their suggestions on how to tackle the cartel problem. But, yeah it's a little bit wasteful of tax payer resources. But, it's neither good nor bad, only time and history will tell if this was a good move.

Finally someone taking control of the drug war. If less fentanyl enters this country, I would consider it a WIN for us.
