View submission: Escondido Police impound vehicles from street takeover near peaceful protest
100% agree some clowns doing donuts does not suggest the protest was non-peaceful.
The way I read the article, it sounds like the protest was underway, some fool drivers show up and start doing donuts in the intersection nearby, then the cops take care of the danger to attendees & public. I think u/realwavyjones is the only one saying they were associated at the moment since the title just says the drivers were nearby and the police say they were protecting the attendees.
A protest was underway... ...when the drivers appeared and began performing donuts and burnouts on the street...
"The effort to provide orderly and safe venues for anyone wishing to exercise their First Amendment rights requires regional participation from law enforcement," said Interim Escondido Chief of Police Erik Witholt. "When drivers choose to block roadways, occupy intersections and commit other acts that pose a clear and present danger to attendees and the public, we will act to restore order and safety.

For context, the original deleted comment that I replied to simply said "Peaceful protests."
