It's an obvious symbol to show support of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants, as in San Diego a very large majority of them are of Mexican descent. What else would they use? There isn't an "immigrant" flag.

See, i can see both sides of this. But let me ask you this, if they were waiving US flags, would you even know what the protest is about? Maybe a flag that is half Mexican flag and half US flag would make more sense in context, kinda like a union.

In their defense, Temecula was part of Mexico until it was taken by the same kind of force the U.S. claims makes the annexation of Crimea illegitimate.
