Are you forgetting that the planet has to use a metric fuckton of electricity to maintain anything on the blockchain? Reddit could have easily adopted a simpler database structure with premium avatars with virtually zero environmental impact, but they instead went down the blockchain path harming the entire planet in the process.

They are minted on polygon, it's a PoS chain that doesn't use much more energy than a regular database. It has virtually zero environmental impact.
