I did the very sort of integration of open-source developers of the Second Life UI and I agree that it's super helpful and low hanging fruit. Unfortunately it's a lot more difficult than it appears from the developer's perspective because there are often unintended/unexpected consequences of many apparently easy fixes. In short, it's more expensive than it would appear, but it's very much worth it.
