As surely as the terrorists of 9/11 wanted to tear down American democracy in 2001, the terrorists of Jan. 6 want to tear down our democracy as well, even as they pose as its defenders. And unlike the Sept. 11 attackers, they are going to get another chance.
We essentially have one year to save democracy. If Republicans take the House or Senate in 2022, the wheels will be in motion to guarantee that a Republican is president in 2024 no matter how the votes go.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans died last year due to the GOP's neglect of COVID. They've **been** a larger threat than the 9/11 hijackers, and always have been.

I am in absolute horrified shock that the GOP ousted a member of their party because she agreed to investigate a terror attack at the United States Capitol.
My mind is a constant metronome going between "but maybe theres hope" and "we are hopelessly fucked".
Edit: typo

all right-wingers are part of the same death-cult. this is true the world over.
recycling has intent, purpose; destruction has no use.
the right-wing start out as that kid who kicks down every other kids' sandcastles. they honestly believe kicking everything down is improving the world. perhaps it has something to do with an imaginary *tabula rasa.* it's the same as burning books. but eventually they escalate their contempt to life itself. their message to the universe is literally one word, "No!"
honest question: how can we negotiate a future with those who reject future itself?

The 9/11 terrorists were never an existential threat to democracy in the US.

They proved this a long time ago. I just wish there was anyone in a position of power willing to do something about it. Nope. Instead we get the guy who insists on working with them.

They have a good point.
No one is saying the 9/11 terrorists didn't kill more people or that it wasn't a much more violent attack but after it happened things were done to at least try preventing another attack like it. I know there are conspiracy theories about it being an inside job but in general most people know those aren't true.
With the 1/6 terrorists, we not only have people defending what they did, many of them are actually in congress and have been actively working to block any investigation into it. There's no question they'd support another attack if it would help them get back in power
The consequences of both attacks will be felt for a very long time but with the Trump terrorists it's going to go a lot deeper. They're part of our government, there's a very good chance the damage they've done and will continue to do will last for generations.

I wholeheartedly believe this - The Republican Party is by far the biggest threat to the United States. Bigger than ISIS, Russia, China. Anything. They MUST be stopped. At all cost.

No, it was after they supported an insurrectionist pathological liar and racist hatemonger who preached anti-science during a pandemic.

Is she gonna swap parties and denounce the Republican party after this? No? Thats why I don't care what she has to say or what her party does about her.

Going by sheer bodycount due to GOP intentional misinformation about the pandemic, the 9/11 hijackers wouldn't even be worth arresting had they lived.

Everyone complaining about the headline has their own cranium so far up their backsides. How many more people have died due to Republican obstruction of common sense COVID measures than died on 9/11.
You worship decorum while moron nazis killed hundreds of thousands. It’s disgusting.

Do you guys ever have an opinion that isn't entirely based on wildly exaggerated hyperbole?
Like jesus christ, any time anyone remotely right of Mao does ANYTHING, you pretend someone strapped a bomb to you. Grow up.

If USA Today, the most milquetoast publication in the world, is using language like this, then "Republicans" are a bigger threat than god damn Manbearpig.

Ya'llqaeda is actually on our home turf and has radicalized susceptible people. They've in fact taken over the second most popular political party. Of course it's a bigger threat.

This is a perfect example of an article with a perfectly valid investigation that is going to start unnecessary levels of bullshit just because of its ridiculously inflammatory headline.
Republicans who read this aren't ever going to have their minds changed after everything that's happened after the past 4 years. The only thing the headline will do is make them scream loudly about how they're being discriminated against.
