Sorta reminds me of that part in *The Dark Knight* where Bruce warns Gordon of cops with relatives or family members in hospital (s) who risk getting blown up by Joker if no one kills the whistleblower within the hour.
Of course in this case cops were probably fine with not finding out who the assassin was if this was the case...
