It creates habitats for species who are able to adapt to the dam. If human pollution/waste allows some animals or organisms - such as cockroaches, bacteria etc to thrive, doesn't that mean that it could be analogous to dam-building?

When the beavers dam breaks eventually it will flood other land and kill other animals and life will adapt and go on quickly many species move back in.
When an area filled deadly with toxins/radioactive material breaks dries, up, whatever. The result is that the land is only suitable for a select few for many many years.
