I think communication is a great example of balance between form and function. In certain instances it has great propensity for self-sharpening. I think it’s easy to lose sight of it’s emergent nature and therefore inestimable possible potential. I have seen, and been involved with, instances of communication that was so subtle and uncanny that it borders, in my opinion, on precognition.

So then, what is the purpose of communication?

Communication is how we share our thoughts and feelings with one another. If two people were to share how they feel and what they think with one another, they would form a bond so strong that they would be able to communicate a great deal in subtle ways.

However, if a person were to communicate about something other than them self it would not be as accurate. If the thing communicated were a process or system then the complexity of interactions would make it harder to distinguish form and function. This confusing game of telephone would repeat until the process itself is maintained instead of the goal it was set up to achieve.

I was thinking of a training where I used to work. I don't remember what the training was, but they had some process of following step-by-step protocol to improve the productivity of the place. Nobody really understood why were doing it but everyone knew how to follow the steps. It was just funny to see how everyone focused on following the steps instead of using it as a guide to achieve the overall goal of improving the quality of the output.
