We have little to add that has not already been said in the excellent explainer[1] of the issues (and in particular of required API usage for mod actions) written by our colleagues who moderate r/AskHistorians and the excellent explainer[2] of the accessibility issues over at r/blind. Reddit’s current proposed course of action would effectively make the site entirely inaccessible to visually impaired users in one fell swoop.

r/ExplainLikeImFive has also provided a great ELI5 of the relevant issues[3], including, for example, what all this talk of the “API” is, etc.

Please remember throughout this blackout (1) the accessibility issues posed by Reddit’s proposed API fee schedule, and (2) that the moderators that keep this site running—both for your use and Reddit’s business—volunteer their time.
See here[4] for what *you* can do.

It won't work, they'll replace the mod teams. We should be promoting a "great deletion" where we delete all the content each user has ever posted. Comments, submission etc. Our content drives views to reddit. If we aren't able to add content the way we wish, why should they benefit from it? That's what needs doing, nothing else will bother them.

I worry about this since the admins have proved, time and again, that they're irredeemable scum.
Whether it's protecting the mods of T_D because their political ideals align despite the terroristic threats. Trying to hire a pedophile supporter, then censoring anyone that brings it up. Their unwavering support for r\worldnews famous Ghislaine Maxwell. To the outright theft of a subreddit like r\workreform.
My guess is a bunch of power mods/PR teams will be taking over most of the mod responsibilities of popular subreddits (if they haven't already) as the scum ramp up to their IPO. I just hope someone takes note of the mod's usernames before the blackout. It doesn't even really matter since admins can go in and change your comments or shadow ban you outright.
The only thing reddit admins respond personally to is if bad news gets reported to the press or if you point out who Ghislaine Maxwell's father is.

Why do it on a Monday? Go private during the weekend when they get the most traffic.

Reddits response: “k”.
This is just a waste of time and virtue signaling unless you’re willing to swing nuts and leave.

I'm excited for this mass blackout. The only time I'll enjoy Reddit is when people aren't using it lmao.

So it seems counter- productive to say the protest will end on the 14th, it makes the protest just something to weather

Well I'll be gone once June 30th hits. You guys should really take a stand a shut down indefinitely. You're not getting paid to run a sub. Why continue to do so when the website is hurting its users.

Volunteering is great, but is it really *volunteering with no kickbacks*? Because, when people say volunteer, what typically comes to (my) mind is, 'out of their own expense', as opposed to anything dealing with compensation. Every sub, modteam, community is different, in taste or 'required maintenance (for user enjoyment/participation)'; but, comparatively speaking, I typically look at the provisioning of starting our own communities and api access as privileges, not requirements.
There's definitely some middle ground this falls into, but I think everyone gets lost in the middle; between running your own server server & services, paying for your own bandwidth and using all open source software, versus selecting the right provider for 'all of that techno bs'.
On the do it yourself - be the change you wish to see in the (open) source community - side of things, I think its a lot more clear where 'the workers party' should be aligned. More capability is more capability, and very simple to imagine and pursue, as far as (setting) goals go.
On the other side - when looking for professional solutions and mediation, hence needing api access - people just want to be 'treated right', or have access to 'their own data'

The blackout will accomplish nothing. Far worse community reactions were already factored for before even making this decision. Shut down subs indefinitely or nothing will get done.

What would it do though? I'm all for solidarity and sticking it to the man but will this actually prick Reddick, at all?
I mean, they wont lose any money, right? Maybe a few hours of bad publicity but people will move on?
Its not like people will stop using Reddick out of principle, its the only place that is less Human Brainshyt (like twitter, facebook, 4chan).
It still shyt, but not major social media shyt, lol.
