This happened to me last year. I was applying for IT role (I've been in the industry for about 11years now if that matters). Usually hinahanap ko talaga ung my salary range sa job post since ilang beses nako nakaranas na dumaan sa several interview na malinaw ung expected salary ko from the start then after final interview sasabihin nila na hindi kaya ung expected ko which is parang sayang sa oras for both sides.

Going back to the story, a recruiter reached out to me via email regarding a job and kung available bako for initial HR interview. Before confirming my availability, i asked if ma disclose ba nya yung salary range which she declined. She then told me na never ask that daw yung salary range agad before the interview blah blah. I disagree with that statement pero hindi ko na sinabe then I proceeded with the interview nalang since available naman ako.

After I joined the call, the recruiter introduced herself as usual then inulit na naman nya saken na not only for this job post, na kahit saan daw ako mag apply "never ask the salary range agad" bago ang interview. I said ok nalang then the interview proceeded as usual.. After 15-20 mins ata ng tanungan namen regarding my experience, the job and other things tinanung na nya ko ng expected salary ko which is way out of their budget then we ended the call after that.

And yung inaadvisan pa nya ko na never do it again kahit saang company na tipong yun ung norm sa lahat.

Tama that you asked lalo experienced ka na. And matagal ka na for that matter. Siya din ang nag reach out sayo to begin with. Same with pirating a candidate oofferan mo na agad ng maganda para ma lure na sa position na kailangan i fill in.

I'll drop my expected salary to job platforms (JobStreet and LinkedIn). So, if they ask, I'll drop that number. And if they cannot afford it or tell me it's beyond their budget, that's a quick 5-minute call as it's always my first question (if they can afford my expected salary).

I'd stop wasting energy and time on recruiters who lecture me about lowering my salary expectations or asking me about the budget. There are more jobs to apply for, and there will be those who will not give me a hard time.

Bata pa ba yung kausap mo? Sorry to use the age card pero experienced recruiters or at least the good ones are able to play around the salary question and not make a big deal out of it. Or traditional company ba to?

Top reason bakit sinasabi ng karamihan na confidential yung sahod or cannot disclose etc kasi ayaw nila lumabas yung salary range ng roles sa labas at maging intel lalo na if may taga loob na doing the same role as you. In a perfect world, hr and employer dont want you to compare your salaries kasi personal power mo yun sa company.

What you can do next time is be upfront with your asking and what your looking for before proceeding to next steps. Kung di makasagot ng maayos ang recruiter mo then that might also reflect how the company manages salary discussions.

Kupal na recruiter ‘yan. Always ask their budget for the role dahil kung hindi ka naman pala nila afford, sayang lang oras niyo parehas.

Pag ganyan, may quota yan. Dapat may mainterview or kaya pang lagay lang sa assessment nila na "interviewed X number of applicants" etc etc. While you can indicate rin agad magkano asking mo, it's also HR's job to provide information kasi aksaya oras kung di rin naman pasok sa budget.

Nah it's better to ask, so that you both won't waste time.

usually ekis na ako agad sa ganyan na walang salary range kasi more often than not, they can't afford you. pag above market ang pay they usually disclose it kasi pang-akit ng talents ang mataas na sahod lol

Nahh. Also in IT field. Daming nagre-reach out sa LinkedIn. Before proceeding with anything else, I always ask for Salary range, work setup, and role responsibilities. Same reason you mentioned, sayang oras for BOTH parties na baka umabot sa final interview only to find out di tugna ang salary expectations nyo. Never ako naka experience ng Recruiter na nagreklamo. Filipino, Indian, other nationalities, no issue to all of them. Noob yata yung nakausap mo 😄

Then dun sa 4th day, after nung last interviewer, nagcongratulate yung HR. Tinawagan nya ako after. Sabi, "nagapply ka ba dito?" "May kinuwneto kasi yung hr kapangalan mo. Sobrang yabang daw kasi di daw tinanggap offer nya"

Then yun sinabi ko. Sobrang unprofessional nung hr dinisclose pa pangalan ko. Hayop na yun. Hahaha anyway, yun. Haha

I ask if they can share their budget for the role kapag they are asking for expected/asking salary.

I agree with your overall disposition; it's a waste of everyone's time to go through all the interviews only to find out in the end that the company cannot afford the applicant's salary.

Yang recruiter na yan, komo-quota lang. Masabi lang na naka-interview ng x number of people on that day kaya ganyan. Not really a good look for her and others like her.

sa perspective ng HR/recruiter ginagauge pa nila ung competency mo, if swak ka sa qualifications dun sila magooffer ng mataas or mababa saka hihirit nila jan madalas ano ung previous salary mo para dun sila tumapat, ang ending gusto nila makatipid.

Alam ko sa previous company nmin ung HR dun nkkakuha incentive kpag below budget ceiling ung new hires kasi nakatipid ung business.

Lols. I-gaslight kapa not to ask for their budget upfront? Stay away from them. Lalo na if may stable job ka naman and willing ka to explore new opportunities but not exactly looking at the moment? Sus, you have nothing to lose from dismissing these recruiters.

I always reply them with this:

"To save time and ensure alignment, I want to ask for the salary range and work setup (e.g., remote, hybrid, or onsite) for this role. This will help me provide a prompt and informed response. Thank you!"

Mali lang yung tanong mo. Dapat sinabi mo yung asking mo tas tinanong mo if feasible yun.

I also don't get it. Walang transparency. Kapag ayaw i-disclose agad sa email or within 3 mins ng call, nag withdraw na ako. Kung negotiable, nagtatanong ako agad if may opportunity for raise etc.

Well, if you know the salary range before the initial interview then wala silang nagawang trabaho. I get it but for me if they don’t disclose it then they’re probably not competitive on the salary and compensation.

May technique pa yan na tatanungin ung client or employer kung kakayanin yung asking but the budget for the position they’re recruiting is already in company budget; why would they adjust it to a nobody?

Lol, same here i got interviewed then nag ask agad ako magkano maximum salary offer, as per HR wala daw limit sa salary sa company nila, it depends daw sa qualification. and since i have a 2 gold standard IT certification and its mentioned in my CV, i thought i can ask at least half nalang ng average salary given in south east asia. at the end of the interview after kong masabi desired salary ko, way out of budget daw for the position... napa ahhh ok nalang ako...

I usually ask the range after the initial interview or screening. Most of the time they give the range or tell you if over or within the range.

Maybe I would understand if it's entry level kasi for sure minimum inooffer nila if wala nakalagay ng salary range.

I always assume they are lowball-ing if they don't post also the expected salary.
