For context, my work requires me to travel in different parts of Philippines since we usually have collaboration with our subsidiaries. Most of the time our flight schedule will start or end with saturday/sunday, thus, resulting to ***OFFSET***.
On our first meeting after new year, What I thought was a regular nod and smile at hallway with our HR suddenly becomes something else.
She said "Nakagawa na ko ng summary, and I reviewed our leaves in the offices" she paused then continued with vindication "**PALA ABSENT KA PALA**? mas madami ka pang leaves sa office kesa sa mas mabibigat ung trabaho sayo? I'm just saying this kasi medyo bago at kaka regular mo palang"
I replied with awe and confusion "Covered po lahat ng offset yun and I was encouraged by my immediate to use it po since it was my supposed to be weekend" but still she continues to say this and that.
Through-out 2024, I accumulated 15 offsets which I worked during saturdays and sundays minsan more than 8hrs pa and *it confuses me now na, negative pala gamitin ung mga yon?* Then what is it for?
I talked to my immediate about this and he sided on me, I always do offset kapag di ako need (we have daily reminder of this month's schedule), I never misses big events, I'm always there when I needed to be there, and there's no time na hinanap ako for my sole use and purpose at wala ako. -- This is the feedback from my superior. I also asked him kung pwede bang overtime nalang instead na offset to mitigate the problem but my immediate said my position is quite high for that.
My peace of mind is a bit shaken, and iniisip ko sya until now, being branded na pala absent which I never was kahit nung nag aaral pa ko. I can't accept the fact na ganon ang somehow evaluation sakin just because I'm practicing my rights to use my offsets na sila mismo ang nagbigay.
Thoughts?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our HR was reprimanded and will not be around for some time, also, she will be attending some issue-related seminars and personality development. Other personnels also raised their concern with the HR during the meeting, and it resulted for her to be almost dismissed. Our ED is furious, and the people are furious, it was messy for a bit, but in the end, she's given a last chance since she will be retiring this year. Though, if ever this kind of thing happen again, it'll be an early retirement for her. She's brought down to humility and we would like to think that she will not be that kind of person ever again for the rest of this year.
Thanks for the push, my dear redditors. I have cleared my name, and we did help other people to raise theirs too.

I will ask my boss if I can document regarding what HR told me and ask for his thoughts through email. Then, I’ll send it to HR for clarification and CC others who are involved or processing these matters. Bahala sila kung magalit, pero ang off talaga sakin if harap-harapan akong gaganunin. Baka wala kasi bumabangga kaya ganyan siya. Lakas ng loob.

Dont just ignore it. Email mo ung encounter mo with HR and cc your immediate supervisor. Then ask for an alignment meeting. Based on official records kasi, marami kang absent. Baka OA lang ako pero what if mabaliktad ka and say na wala namang offset rule talaga and pasimuno mo lang yan? In fact even in your current set up lugi ka kasi mas malaki ang bayad sa work during rest day.

More likely, HR is not aware with the nature of your work. Don't be bothered, OP. Tanga lang HR nyo. Also, your supervisor sides with you on the matter so no need to fret abt it.

Report that HR personel to his/ her manager. The fact na hindi nya alam yung nature ng trabaho mo, he/ she doesn’t have the right and knowledge to evaluate shit.
I was an application engineer before that traveled all around SEA and Schengen area (bulk of our customers). May isang HR na hindi alam yung trabaho ko but at least she had a little bit of professional courtesy to ask me first bakit andami kong leave in lieu, kahit sa totoo lang wala naman dapat syang pakialam since all of that were approved by my direct boss (which is the regional manager). I still report her to her manager kasi pinapakialaman nya yung mga hindi nya dapat pakialaman. It might be harsh, pero hindi nya na ko direct na matitigan sa mata after that. She learned to mind her own fucking business the hard way I guess.

Bruh, baka ganon talaga HR niyo? Ugaling magsalita muna bago alamin yung reason why? Hahahaha. Pero if nature ng work mo yan and backed ka ng supervisor mo, then all good. Di mo naman need iplease yung HR niyo.

I smell powertripper attitude from your HR. Reading here, your immediate said, pumirma sya roon. Ibig sabihin documented and he/she confirmed to it. Shrug it off, OP. Tanga-tangahan ang HR nyo. Also, are biometrics/attendance advance now? Like kahit nasaan ka pa as long as it is work-related, you can always show proof. As long as your immediate is backing you up, you are good.

You can casually ask around paano nagagamit ng iba yung offset nila.

Might get downvoted for this since everyone's anti-HR here pero for me this is more of a management policy issue. OP, wala ba kayong any type of forms or request kapag nago-offset? Sa mata ng HR niyo, wala siyang proof of the offset. Dapat boss mo maghandle niyan since siya nagsuggest ng offset.
Kaya pangit nago-offset eh. Personally, I don't like bosses who suggest offset, red flag.

This is why I always practice documentation. It doesn't matter if anyone is against you or is siding with you. Always protect yourself, because when no one does, you'll be pushed off the cliff.
Always secure travel orders, leave forms, emails, letters for every course of action you make. Kahit isang simpleng email lang to your superior to document it na nakadeploy ka, nasa site ka. End of day report. Or using offsets. para kahit magkalaglagan, may isasampal ka sa mga umaapi sayo.
Corporate world is cruel. Just make sure you got yourself covered

Di siguro siya aware. Hahaha. Feeling ko different field tayo pero almost the situation samin. When doing field works, may times talaga na weekend or minsan nga holiday ka pa magtatravel galing sa field work mo. O kaya ‘yong mismong trabaho. That’s may offset din kami.
Bukod sa time you spent, pagod pa.

Write an email:
Dear (pangalan ng bobong HR niyo),
For your reference, please see table below regarding my leaves/offset:
(Date worked) (Date ng offset) (Date worked) (Date ng offset) (Date worked) (Date ng offset)
I hope this clarifies that I have not made any absences, contrary to your statement/s last (date kung kelan niya sinabi na pala-absent ka).
Please let me know if there is still any confusion regarding my offset, or if there are any formal changes in the company policy regarding offset of work performed outside of my normal compensable hours.
Thank you.

1st - if your HR needs something to address with you, especially something like that, the discussion should happen in a private meeting or setup at hindi sa hallway. She/he should know this better than anyone in the org.
2nd - I am intrigued kung bakit as an HR, wala syang idea sa nature ng trabaho mo. As the HR, dapat aware sya sa scope ng trabaho mo, anong role mo, how your sched works kase pano nya matutulungan yung manager mo to manage your performance if sya mismo hindi nya pala gets yung trabaho mo. I am an HR myself for over 9 years now and I always make sure to research and understand each role well para pag dumaan yung oras na kailanganin man nila ienroll sa PIP - I will be able to protect the employee's interests by making sure the proper KPIs will be set.
Lastly, bakit ikaw agad yung inapproach nya? Di ba sya nagtaka na walang syang report/escalation na narereceive from your manager kahit na "pala absent" ka pala? Kase if I will see your attendance report, my initial instinct is ask your manager to validate the dates. I will never approach an employee without the complete details.
Nakakahiya yang HR nyo. If I were you, I will heed to the commenters advice, OP. Document what happened and escalate your HR.

As long as your boss is okay with it should be fine. If you want you can document, talk to your boss that you will email HR to clarify. Email HR and copy your boss.

Talking to your supervisor should not be the last stop. baka kasi he is just telling you what you want to hear pero iba pala usapan niya with HR. Dapat may documentation, even via email, na he is saying na valid and approved lahat ng offsets mo and that they shouldn't be considered as absences.
