OK so like correct me if I'm wrong, the etiquette for the escalators anywhere is you get to one side to give overs space to get past right.
Going done to the bus depot to get my bus this evening, some guy standing in the middle, try to get past and then he just arms up on the sides to stop me (my bus is going to leave in a min) then starts going off at me saying if I want to walk take the stairs.
Push past the fuckwomble and he calls me all sorts of shit and how again escalators aren't for walking down.
Like fuck me, if you want a ride go to adventure world, but like don't be a fucking tool and stop people from catching their bus. Just stand to the side, don't be a usless twat and deliberately hinder other people. Takes way less energy to do the right thing than the wrong.

Keeping to one side is just common courtesy.
Sadly courtesy is becoming less and less common these days. People are too busy being focused on themselves.

In other countries where escalators are a fair bit longer it’s normal to walk on them.
If you want to stand still why don’t you use the elevator? 😉

Depends on how busy it is. If there's no congestion, stick to the left and let people pass on the right.
If there is congestion, just get as many people on the escalator as you can by standing on both sides. Leaving a space for people to pass in this case means the escalator carries fewer people.

The one I hate is people doing the correct thing and standing on the left, but then having their bag on their right shoulder so you can't get past. Put your bag in front of you

Either stand aside or get barged out the fucking way. That's how it works.

You can kind of guess this person has never been to an organised society like Japan, and/or just doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

Good on you for pushing past. These rude clowns not adhering to social etiquette need to be called out more.

This is one of the reasons I hate my commute to work. Inevitably some dickhead, fresh off the turnip truck, ends up standing on the right hand side of the escalators and a bunch of other knobs behind them don’t tell them to fucking move. It drives me CRAZY

Standing in the middle is how we identify the people who have never left perth. They’d be trampled in a big city.

Unfortunately etiquette is lost these days. However there is no written rule to indicate what a person should do and not do. It is unfortunate you got stuck behind but he has every right to be a cum gargling thundercunt as he was there first.
Same as if you were stuck behind a driver. Not everyone has manners. I know my wife occupies the middle of a escalator only because she has a walking stick and can not physically occupy one side comfortably, I have seen the look of disgust from those stuck behind us.
The world has become entitled. Patience is the key. I know racing for a bus etc I been there. But when there is nout you can do breath and remember the person being an unbelievable skid mark will die a horrible painful death one day.

Hopefully, we all know what the etiquette is. Well, decent grown-ups that is.
He was blocking the way deliberately, not out of ignorance. Which puts him in the mean, unpredictable dickhead category. Best avoided (stating the obvious, duh).
It always takes a little shine off the day having these kind of interactions. Leaves a bit of a dent on the psyche. I hope this post helps to shake it off.

Forgive me if I am mistaken. But surely most people know if you're standing on the escalator you keep to the left. If you're walking up/down you move to the right

Realistically tho if you want to walk…take the stairs.
