Split up with a girl recently, we were quite open and candid about what was maybe our turn offs for each other. She said the fact i didn't have any hobbies was an issue for her, I couldn't help but be a tad offended by it, but she is 100% right and think i should try doing more.
I work during the week though and usually shattered when i try squeezing in the gym 3 days of the working 5, then once you get dinner, it feels difficult fitting anything else into the day - then on Fridays and Saturdays nearly always out going to gigs or having a drink with mates.
So what's your hobbies, general advice? hoping it gets me thinking (I'm 28)
Edit: Just to confirm, I split up with her, the chat where she said the above, was literally the only negative thing and it still wasn't a hill she was dying on, just a general thought!

Gym and music gigs are hobbies to be fair.
Wouldn't stress it too much or try and take on loads of different things. If you were drinking a few days every weekend though that might be more what she was getting at?
If you're single and can afford it, travelling would be what I would recommend. Long weekend city breaks around Europe can be done handy enough if you pick up cheap flights and book cheap accommodation. Would give you a lot more to talk about with future dates.

You should find hobbies that you enjoy that you don’t find tiresome, no point forcing yourself to do something you don’t like for someone else affirmation.
After work I play guitar for a while and actively look forward to it.

Okay - nerd alert, I collect coins, right now I'm working on my roman coin collection. I buy a job lot of maybe 20 roman coins and spend a few evenings trying to identify them, these are not expensive coins. I like trying to find out about them and their history etc.
A long time ago B.C. (before children) i used to skydive (had about 600+) and did 2 BASE jumps. I did not see coin collecting on my parent bingo card

I said this before on another account but some lads need to set up “the Belfast boys gang” on Facebook. The Belfast girl gang has thousands of girlies, everyone with different hobbies etc, and everyone just meets up, has their little get together and keeps in touch for the most part.
I’ve made some really good friends on it and I know if there’s ever an event my partner doesn’t want to go to, I can find someone there so I don’t get lonely (I have very limited numbers of friends lol). A lot of people will post there about starting up a craft club, going to the gym together, going for walks & coffees together etc so it’s a good way to start up a new hobby.
There just doesn’t seem to be an equivalent for guys. It’s like males are too scared to start something like that even though it would be something so many would find useful.

My main hobbies include collecting second hand CDs and LP's, hoarding old hifi equipment and taking electrical things apart and not putting them back together.
I think my misses would gladly trade me in for a guy with no hobbies.

She sounds exhausting. If you're into gigs, that's an interest in music. Which is a hobby. If you feel like it doesn't count" though, expand on what you're interested in already. Are you interested in listening to music or playing it? What sort of music? Listening could develop into collecting albums or their artwork. Vinyl? Could you learn an instrument? Dabble with sound engineering?
Conversely, you said you try to get to the gym, do you enjoy the gym (if so, it's a hobby) or is it a chore because you feel like you should go? If it's a chore, do any types of exercise interest you more? Weightlifting? Martial arts? Sports? Swimming? Solves your time issue as well because you don't have to find time for both and you won't skip it because you enjoy it.

You go to the gym 3 times per week and go out socialising at the weekends what the fuck more did she want from you with regards to hobbies?
She sounds unrealistic, gym and looking after yourself is a hobby, as is socialising. Sounds like she wanted you out of the way for a few hours per week for what reason only you could answer.
Fuck all wrong with how you live your life, if someone has issue with it you don't need them in it. I think you dogged a bullet!

I collect watches. Not fancy ones but vintage promotional ones, novelty watches and I love Casios
My only rule is I cannot buy online, I have to find them organically
I did have a great beer glass collection, from all around the world until my partner insisted we get a Belfast sink which ended up murdering them all

Dungeons and Dragons, board games, card games, playing instruments, reading, cooking...
I will say, it sounds like fitness is a hobby of yours if you go to the gym that much. So I find what your ex said a little unfair to you.

Depends on your character, personally I struggle to focus on one thing and do one or two things each wk every wk.... I rather do loads of things a few times each per yr. And for me, the point of hobbies is my own fun and enjoyment, whilst 'progress' in skill is inevitable, I don't really try very hard to 'learn'. I do an initial burst to learn quickly to get to a functional ability and then just enjoy actually doing the thing....I find the idea of committing to a weekly class or wtv a bit claustrophobic.... So my hobbies are broad but im not necessarily doing each one every wk - walks/hikes (errigal, Mournes, fairhead, glenarriffe, glenveagh etc), crafts (pottery, woodwork), art (usually pencil drawings, sometimes painting), surfing, wakeboarding (letsgohydro), skating, volunteering in youth work, 5-aside football, very rare running, DIY/gardening, helping others (eg, help your mate with their DIY and get pizza after), SUP'ing, coasteering, climbing, cooking, having friends round for food/games, on clear, moonless nights drive away from cities/villages and see the stars, camping in the summer with family and also wild camping with friends, etc etc. some of those things might be a couple times a month, some once or twice a year. All in all, it's makes for a varried, interesting way for me at least to spend my time. Also do more obvious ones like cinema, etc. male, mid thirties, husband and father - so a lot of the above is also often done as a family or with several families and all our kids. I think just start....do it tonight, text a few buddies and just do something, anything...once you get started the ideas start flowing and the people you're with will have ideas etc etc. good luck!
