You keep saying this, but they issues threats to hundreds of people in a bunch of US cities. You're trying to link this to what happened, and there's no reason to think they are.

Whoa, whoa, there are plenty of reasons to think they are. The first one that comes to mind is that I'm so heavily invested in my own narrative of evil brown people that I'm willing to ignore any detail that doesn't align with my preestablished views.
