How much do you know about Islam? It's a particularly intolerant ideology, which encourages violence against others (from the foundational teachings of Muhammad). I don't understand the double standard on the US left?
(Of course violence isn't justified, other than to protect innocent people--I'm in no way suggesting these students deserved any violence.)

The left does not justify sharia law or anything of the sort. They are behind Palestine because of the oppressor/oppressed dynamic (whether you agree with that or not). There are still a lot of secular cultural muslims, or just peaceful muslims and that is totally okay, and those people do not deserve to be hate-crimed. Just as your average peaceful christian does not deserve discrimination based on the actions of the more evangelical-wing of christianity.
