I don't feel like any place is necessarily an odd place for something like this to happen, because it just takes one person

Yep. There's literally not a single place where there are 0 evil/racist/crazy/violent people.

For real

Burlington has a reputation as a progressive place for a reason, the thousands and thousands of people who believe and act a certain way

Doesn’t mean there isn’t one single crazy person in the entire region

People seem to forget a state is more than just a big city. NY for example, is usually pretty liberal, overall. But the thing is, the numbers for that all come from the city. Outside the city? It's all MAGA. The city outnumbers everything else by orders of magnitude within the state, but you should never forget the rural areas are always all redhats. And it's not like people will just magically stop being shitheads because they left an area.

Any first world country outside the US this seems to be pretty rare in.

Hell, even in developing countries it's rare.

Yeah. Statistically there has been a non zero number of murders/rapes at the google/Microsoft offices, probably at a lower rate than the surrounding areas, but probably not zero

Every place in the US is a place something like this can happen.

It takes one person, yes, but areas that have thousands of people like that / who sympathize with those ideas are more likely for something awful to happen than areas with only a couple. I feel like the top comment adds valuable context.

There was a mass stabbing in Iceland not too long ago. The country has basically zero violent crime, but one incident like that happened anyway.
