View submission: Deprecating community chat rooms
I didn't know this was a thing, the only chat I got invited to was a 2020 politics chat where no one knew how they got invited and the opening lines of the chat were in Russian.
Edit: oh and a few individuals have chatted me trying to sell me bitcoin or get me to go to their scummy scammy porn sites. But I ignore those. My point is that I have never had anything other than bad experiences with chat and I wish I could turn it off entirely.

You can turn it off in redesign preferences!
Visit new.reddit.com > User Settings > Chat & Messaging > There are options to set both PM and chat "filters" or turn them off.

I don't see any chat of any sort because I use a third-party app on mobile, and even back when reddit had APIs these developers didn't implement new reddit features (and now there's no way for them to if they wanted to).
