Yes.Instead of hiring bots from outside, you can buy awards from the site itself, for upvotes

Yes I really think this will be what ends up happening. I get why Reddit is doing this (more $$ for them) but I don’t like this idea

We hear your concern about buying karma and "karma farming" - we expect that some level of karma farming will happen, but we will be watching during our experiment for ways to mitigate that. Our hope is that this activity will be low relative to genuine community usage. We'll be working with Safety teams to keep on top of manipulation[1].
